About 1000 seniors and their families and friends joined in the celebrations at U-Square. Despite a heavy downpour, the residents enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and entertainment by various artistes. Mdm Halimah presented the birthday seniors (whose birthday falls between September and December) with a cake and 2 red eggs.

Active Ageing Sports Day & TCM Health Check – 20 Nov 2011 Sunday

It was a sunny morning as the residents joined Mdm Halimah in a mass workout. Though it was a low impact exercise, it certainly work up a sweat! After which, residents participated in the various stations like TCM health check, telematch, game stalls, folk dance and various exhibition booths. It was a busy morning for the participants as they went from station to station.

This is the first ever Kampong Night at BBE. Residents joined in the fun as they played five stones, chapteh, hopscotch and tikam. while doing so, they munched on old delights like kacang putih. They were also enthralled with the balloon man performance and magic show. 在10月16日，在武吉巴督东坊聚集500多居民一起参与甘榜游戏。除了玩跳飞机，踢毽子，和tikam。大家也一起观赏魔术及其他节目。大人和小孩家都玩得不亦乐乎。

On 10 July 2011, hundreds of residents gathered at the Bukit Batok East Point to watch the Karaoke Singing Competition where 40 contestants displayed their singing talents, and wooed the judges and audience with their songs.

Mr Desmond Sim, PBM, Vice Chairman of BBE CCC graced the event and presented trophies and prizes to the various winners.

在2011年 7月10日，武吉巴督东第3区居民委员会主办了卡拉OK歌唱大赛，有数百名居民观看了这场比赛，大饱耳福。最后，Helen获得全场的冠军。

Dumpling Festival Celebration 欢庆端午节- 5th June 2011

On 5th June, more than 300 residents gathered at Bukit Batok East Point to celebrate Dumpling Festival together. Besides playing games provided by National Environment Agency (NEA), they also enjoyed an evening of variety entertainment and yummy dumplings.

在6月5日，在武吉巴督东坊聚集300多居民一起庆祝端午节。除了有国家环境局（NEA）提供的游戏，他们还享有各种娱乐和美味的粽子。

Community Emergency Preparedness Program (CEPP) – 3 July 2011 Sunday

CEPP is a one-day 5 modular programme which aimed to allow the participants to experience & understand the essential elements of an effective team and also to experience and practice skills in Emergency Preparedness . May Day was a public holiday and Zone 3 RC had organized 5 bus loads of residents to Marina Barrage, Singapore Flyers, Helix Bridge and some has taken the opportunities to visit Marina Bay Sand. Half of these residents were made up of New Citizens and Permanent Residents. Overall experience from the trip was positive and there were many opportunity for networking and family bonding. However, there was a little boy who had injured himself during the free and easy segment and our Chairman had quickly paid the little boy a visit that night with a few of the committee members. On 30 Apr 2011, BBE Zone 3RC together with BBE Senior Citizens’ Executive Committee organized a Parents’ Day cum Senior Citizens’ Birthday Celebration at BBE Point Mall. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Mdm Haliman Yacob, Mr David Ong were there to grace the occasion. The residents welcome them and they have distributed cakes and ‘red eggs’ to the senior citizens who celebrated their birthday in the month on April and May.

2011年4月30日，武吉巴督东3区居委会与武吉巴督东乐龄执行委员会一起主办双亲节兼乐龄生日宴会。尚达曼先生，哈莉玛女士，王金发先生是宴会嘉宾，他们的出席让宴会深设不少。居民很欢迎他们。他们也分发蛋糕和红鸡蛋给四到六月份生日的乐龄。

Many residents came to watch the 312 Meridien Exercise Group demonstration. The residents also enjoyed the artistes’ performance in various languages and dialects. Mdm Halimah joined in the fun and greatly encouraged the newly formalised 312 Meridien Exercise Group by presenting appreciation certificates to them.

Around 400 residents gathered at block 266 void deck to celebrate the new year as well as to honour their seniors. Mdm Halimah, together with the seniors whose birthday are from January to April, celebrated together. Mdm Halimah also went to every table to distribute cake & red eggs to the birthday “babies”.

Batam Trip 20-21 Nov 10 (巴淡岛之旅11月20-21日)

Batam – an island in Indonesia, which is around 20km from Singapore. A ferry ride would take around 1 hour from Singapore to the island. Batam has a population of around 1 million and is actually one of fastest growing tourist destinations in Indonesia in terms of visitor arrivals.

There are many tourist especially Singaporean who likes to take a short break in that island. There was no exception to the residents in Bukit Batok East Zone 3. The Residents’ Committee (RC) had organized a 2 days 1 night trip to that island on 20-21 Nov 10.

The itinerary include island hopping, visit to the ‘kueh lapis’ factory, temple visits and many others. Golden View Hotel also one of the better Hotels in Batam, what else could you asks for when all meals were included including supper.

For those who have missed that, not to worry, I am sure the Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC would organize more if there is a demand. You could click on the photos to see the wonderful time these residents had.

巴淡岛 - 在印尼，离新加坡约20公里的岛屿。由新加坡本岛乘渡轮要大约1小时。巴淡岛拥有大约100万人口，实际上是印尼增长最快的旅游目的地之一。

有许多游客，尤其是新加坡人都喜欢到巴淡岛一游，让自己在这岛上休息一会。武吉巴督东3区的居民也不例外。居委会在11月20-21日组织了一次2天1巴淡岛游。

行程包括环岛游，参观'千层糕'工厂，寺庙参观等等。

对于那些错过了这一次的居民，不用担心，如果有需求，我相信武吉巴督东3区居委会会举办更多这样的旅游，下次你就不好再错过了！

Kusu Island Trip (龟屿岛一日游)

Kusu Island - One of the southern Islands in Singapore. Many devotees would travel to the island on the 7th to the 9th month of the lunar calendar. There was a legend told about the island.

The legend has it that a giant sea turtle sacrificed itself; transformed itself into an island to rescue a Malay and a Chinese sailor. In order to show gratitude, the Malay and Chinese sailors built a Malay island shrine, a Chinese Taoist temple and a statue of a giant turtle.

Every year during this period, Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC would organise a trip to the island. Devotees and non-devotees enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled day.

龟屿岛 - 在新加坡南部岛屿之一。每到农历7月到9月都会有许多信徒们前往岛上。世间也流传了有关这一个岛屿的传说。

传说一只巨大海龟为舍身救助遇难的一位马来水手和一位中国水手，把自己变成了一个岛屿，为了感恩,这两名马来及华族水手便在岛上建了一座马来圣祠、一座中国道观和一个巨型海龟雕像。

每年这个时期，武吉巴督东3区居委会会举办到岛上旅游。信徒或非信徒也一起享有一个轻松和充满乐趣的一天。

Mdm Halimah, MP for Jurong GRC and Advisor to Jurong GRC GRO, was presence to grace the event and presented trophies and prizes to the various winners.

在2010年 10月10日，武吉巴督东3区居民委员会主办了卡拉OK歌唱大赛，有数百名居民观看了这场比赛。

最后，萧振华以一首“马儿请慢些走”，一马当先的压倒其他三十五位参赛者，夺得冠军。第二奖由张源获得，第三名被张世荣夺走。台风奖归俊强而服装归美华。

裕廊集选区顾问与国会议员，哈莉玛女士也到场颁奖给各得奖者。

A Trip on 3 October 2010 （十月三日的一日游）

Almost 100 residents from Bukit Batok Zone 3 RC had a wonderful day trip on 3 Oct 2010.

The highlight for that day was to visit and participated in Active Ageing Road Show at South West, where lots of games, performances were waiting for them.

Thereafter, they visited the LTA Gallery, which was another educational tour to most of them. Over at LTA Gallery, they have a chance to see how the olden transport system being transformed into the current system.

On the way to Resort World Sentosa, they visited a temple at Telok Ayer Street. Although, the residents did not have a chance to visit the casino, they felt enjoyable for the trip organized for them.

几乎100个居民在2010年10月3日参与了武吉巴督东3区居民委员会主办的精彩一日游。

开始的第一站，他们首先参与了西南社礼会主办的西南活跃乐龄嘉年华。过后，他们到了陆路交通管理局去参观过去与现在的交通设备。最后，他们到了圣淘沙名胜世界。虽然，居民没有机会参观赌场，日参与了武吉巴督东3区居民委员会为他们举办的行程，他们感到很愉快。

Chinatown Heritage Center Half Day Tour (原貌馆半日游)

In order to bring together the New Citizens and our Residents, Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC has organised a half day trip to Chinatown on 19 September 2010.

We started off at 9.30am. The bus brought us to the Chinatown, we watched a demonstration by the calligrapher drawing bamboo on silk and one of our residents was lucky to bring back the drawing through lucky draw. Thereafter, we visited the Chinatown Heritage Centre. With the explanation by the experience tour guides, the participants have better understanding of the past of Chinatown and the hardship of the earlier immigrant that arrived in Singapore in those years.

Finally, the participants were treated with a free lunch and also given time for a free and easy walk around Chinatown before we head back the RC.

为了融入我们的居民与新公民，武吉巴督东3区居委会在2010年9月19日组织了半天游唐人街。

我们在上午九时三十分出发。巴士把我们带到了唐人街，我们看了书法家在丝绸上绘画。此后，我们参观了原貌馆，随着导游的经验说明，参加者有更好的了解了唐人街过去与早期移民在抵达新加坡在那些年的困难。

最后，参加者在唐人街附近有一些自由活动和用了一顿免费的午餐，才随着巴士回到武吉巴督东3区居委会。

Singapore 2010 - Youth Olympic Games (新加坡2010年 - 青年奥运会)

As the host of Singapore 2010 – the first Youth Olympic, Singapore took the lead in spreading the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect to the youth of the world and encourages them to embrace them in all spheres of life.

On 12 August 2010 at around 12.45pm, BBE Zone 3 residents together with residents from other zones lined up along the Torch Relay route to give support to one of the Torch relay runner, who was a representative from BBE CSC and also a resident from
BBE Zone 3. The crowds were cheering and some were running with him to complete his scheduled distance.

It was the proudest and most memorable moment, whether as a cheering group or the runner in the relay.

新加坡主办2010年 - 首届青年奥运会，为了传播卓越，友谊和尊重的三大世界青年奥林匹克的价值观。引导和鼓励他们树立生活中的各个领域。

2010年8月12日下午12时45分左右，武吉巴督东3区居民与来自其他地区的居民一起列队沿火炬接力路线，为支持火炬接力的选手。这名选手是代表武吉巴督东体育会也是武吉巴督东3区的。

无论是支持者还是火炬接力的选手，这是最值得骄傲和最难忘的时刻。

Bukit Batok East National Day Observance Ceremony 2010

Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC joint the crowd of more than 2500 residents in the Bukit Batok East National Day Observance Ceremony which was held on 08 August 10 at the "U-Square" next to Blk 283 Bukti Batok East Avenue 3.

Highlights of the day includes the Flag Raising Ceremony, Mini Parade, the Mass Community Song Singing, Launching of the "U-Square" and Performance by YISS Students.

The Organising Committee was encouraged by the huge turnout and wish to express their thanks to all residents and partners for the ceremony.

武吉巴督东3区的居民联合了超过2500的武吉巴督东的居民一起在“U广场”庆祝了国庆典礼。

当日节目包括升旗典礼，迷你巡游，唱爱国歌唱等等。

筹备委员会对出席人数感到巨大鼓舞，并希望表达他们的感谢所有居民和仪式的合作伙伴。

There is no better way to encourage racial harmony and peace than to promote, develop and disseminate different cultural information, knowledge and understanding through public participation like the annual Inter-Racial Inter-Religious Harmony Nite. The idea is to raise the consciousness of the public, on an individual as well as a group level in the many ways we practise racial and religious harmony, including tolerance.

House Visit and Floor Party at Block 286 on 4 May 10

On 4 May 2010, Mdm Halimah was doing her routine house visiting to residents of Block 286. During the visit, most residents were happy with the living environment. However, there were few resident who wished to see improvement in areas such as Brighter Lighting at dark corners; security in the area and mosquitoes breeding issues.
A floor party was also organised at Level 8 in conjunction to her visit. Residents were gathered for a small ‘makan’ session together with Mdm and the Grassroots Leaders. The residents found the small group gathering was interesting. Moving forward, they would have it more often on their own.

在5月4日，哈莉玛女仕带领基层领袖们，在286座，做例行家庭访问。访问期间，大部分居民都满意他们的生活环境。但是，有少数居民希望看到一些可改善的地方。例如在阴暗的角落放置更亮的照明灯，蚊子滋生下和地方安全问题。

同时，在八楼也有一个小聚会，让居民们多沟通与了解。居民们展望未来有更多这样的聚会。

International Woman's Day (国际妇女节)

Residents gathered at Bukit Batok East Point Mall on 6th March 2010 to celebrate International Women's Day. Besides learning to do simple handicrafts and making "mua chee", residents were also entertained with games and songs. Mdm Halimah graced the event and also provide valuable advice to all participants, especially to the ladies, who being caregivers in their families, should also care for their own health and do regular health checks.

On 28 Feb 2010, it was the last day of Feb 2010 and also the last day for celebrating the Lunar New Year (15th Day) 2010. For those that may not know, in the Chinese Culture, it was the Chinese Valentines' Day too.

The Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC together with the Bukit Batok East Senior Citizen Executive Committee had jointly organised the Lunar New Year cum Senior Citizen Birthday Celebration.
武吉巴督东3区居委会与武吉巴督东乐龄俱乐部联合举办了春节兼乐龄生日会。

More than 300 residents came together to celebrate this joyful occasion. There were 9 course Chinese dinner served and Variety Show Performance to entertain them. For those Senior Citizens’ birthday just around that period, they were each received a box of cake and 2 ‘red’ eggs.
三百多名居民聚集在一起，庆祝这个欢乐的时刻。他们享用了一餐丰富的晚餐和娱乐表演。对于那些这期间生日的乐龄人士，他们每人收到了一盒蛋糕和两粒红鸡蛋。

The residents took the opportunity to bond with each other and had a wonderful evening together.

What is the biggest creature that runs around in Jurong Bird Park that you can think of?

Ostrich?

Well. The residents of Bukit Batok East (BBE) Zone 3 RC will tell you that it is not Ostrich. The reason is because they have seen something bigger….

On 30 Jan 10, BBE Zone 3 RC has organized a trip the view the Hollywood Dinos Event held at the Singapore Jurong Bird Park. More than 70 residents joint the event.

They have experienced the technology of animatronics. The dinosaurs were believed to have created to the actual size, they were able to move, growl, blink their eyes and even walk and chase after people.

You could see adult and kids were screaming away, when these dinosaurs run after them.

To the residents, it was one of the wonderful and educational trip organized by the BBE Zone 3 RC.

Block Party cum Recycle Exercise on 10 Jan 2010

Do you know what the 3"R' stands for when we talk about recycle?

Yes, for those who got that right. It is REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE. Not to worry if you have gotten them wrong. At least you will know it now.

On 10 Jan 10, Zone 3 RC had organised a Block Party cum Recycle Exercise. All our 500 tickets were puchased by the residents who have been supportive to our events. Residents brought their used bottles, old greeting cards and used red-pickets for recycling and they were rewarded by a small souvenir by NEA.

The residents were also treated to Variety Show and Stage Quiz, which the main message to residents was to RECYCLE.

We were fortunate to have Mdm Halimah Yacob, the MP for Jurong GRC and Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs to grace the event.

Finally, 13 lucky residents walk away with our Lucky Draw.

Night Tour To Orchard Road

The Christmas lights were glittering; the Christmas carols were heard every corners.

YES! We were in the middle of Orchard Road on 12 December 2009. Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC had organised a night tour touring Orchard Road to look at the beautiful lightings. Due to overwhelming response, we have to charter 2 buses for this event. Unfortunately, we still have to disappoint and turn away some.

Every year, Singapore spent handsome sum of money decorating Orchard Road to celebrate the Christmas. The magical lightings have turned the place into a Fairyland; the only setback was that we do not have snow here.

Some residents’ feedback that they were glad that we had organised this night tour for them as they hardly would travel to Orchard Rd to experience and watch this magical moment LIVE.

Neighbourhood Watch Program

On 11 Dec 09, 12 members together with police and our ACM patrol Zone 3 in Bukit Batok East. This was our regular partnership with the police to ensure the safety of our Residents. We went around in groups to look out for any unusual incidents and suspicious characters. We went to blocks, car parks and some remote areas. Although we did not discover anything unusual, we believe this exercise and collaboration with the police to ensure the safety of the Residents is important. We wanted our residents to feel safe living here and in fact, we are sure that we are staying in a SAFE place.

Bukit Batok East Retreat 2009

Few members from Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC went for the Retreat to LAOs from 2 – 6 December 2009 that was successfully organised by Bukit Batok East CO together with the GRO partners. Mdm Halimah Yacob, our MP of Jurong GRC and Adviser to Jurong GRC GRO, was with us throughout the whole trip.

We went into LAOs via Thailand. Although the journey was long, participants had great fun chitchatting, playing Bingo, and watching the scenery through the journey. At times, no one was listening to the Tour guide as everyone was taking this great opportunity to bond and know each other better. The bonding we had would definitely enable us to work closer together to organised better events for the Residents.

Our main focus for this Retreat was to come together and brainstorm for activities in 2010. Besides, everyone was actively engaged in the discussion and game organised for the purpose of team-building.

Each of us could testify that we had enjoyed and experience the culture of both LAOs and Thailand. The Retreat was a great success and 3 Cheers to the Organising Committee.

Silver Award from the National Crime Prevention Council

On 25 Oct 09, over 400 residents gathered at the Bukit Batok East Point Mall to watch the Senior Citizens' Singing Competition where 31 contestants displayed their singing talents, and wooed the judges and audience with their songs. Mdm Halimah graced the event and presented trophies and prizes to the various winners.

House Visit to Block 287

2 Days 1 Night Tanjung Pinang Tour

Due to the overwhelming request from the 'Travel Lover'. Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC had organised a short trip of 2 days 1 night to Tanjung Pinang Beach Resort on 17 and 18 October 2009.

The beach is beautiful and clean, the water is clear. All meals were provided. The residents were happy that they were brought to the shops for local products and shopping centers. They did what a tourist would do, that is shop, shop and shop.

The residents had a wonderful time, not only for the food, the shopping and the sightseeing. But more importantly was the bonding.

They were looking forawrd for the RC to organise more activities, which they appreciated it very much.

Launch of National Brisk Walking on 27 Sep 09 at Kranji Turf Club

90 Residents participated in the Launch of National Brisk Walking 2009 at Kranji Turf Club. Mr Lim Boon Heng together with the 5 Mayors was the Guest of Honour for the event.

Zone 3 RC has coordinated the event and sent 90 participants (2 buses) for the event. We gathered outside the RC Centre and the buses moved off at 6.45am. At Kranji Turf Club, together with over thousand participants from the whole of Singapore, we started with a warm up exercise. Thereafter, all participants went for 3.8km walk.

At the end of the walk, participants were treated with a variety show and brought home a goodie bag each.

2D1N Batam Trip on 15 & 16 August 2009

35 residents took part in the 2D1N Batam Trip organised by Bukit Batok East Zone 3 RC. The travellers gathered outside the RC Centre at Block 268 and were ready to set off at 6.45am.

The ferry set sail at 9.00am and reached Batam also 9.00am (Indonesia Time). They felt younger by an hour because the time was one hour behind ours. We were greeted by the friendly tour-guide, Mr Hendri.

The journey with first destination was to the famous Temple for the God of Fortune. All devotees paid their respect and journey continued. Before Lunch, the places visited were Kue Lapis Factory and Benkong Dry food Store. There was a demonstration how the kue lapis was made and sample tasting of the local products at the Dry Food store.

A succulent seafood lunch was served at Restaurant Golden Prawn 555. In the Restaurant, various kinds of seafood were displayed for the patronage to choose from.
The program after lunch were as follows

     • Watched a cultural show.

     • Visited the POLO cum souvenir shops.

     • Tour to the Vietnam Village, which was almost 20 years old.

     • Visited the one and only Dragon Fruit Plantation in Batam.

The dinner was at Golden Fish Restaurant. Although there was a slight rain, but the view of the sunset could still be seen. The scenery was beautiful; diner could witness the sunset over the Barelang Bridge, while enjoying their dinner.

After dinner, before we proceed to the Golden View Hotel, around three quarter of the group when for a 90 minutes Indonesian body massage. The rest who were not so kind were happily shopping at Nagaya Hill Shopping Mall.

After a full day of activities, everyone had a good rest in the hotel room.
The following day, after breakfast, everyone was ready ‘to charge again’. For those who were adventurous enough went for the Gold-Karts ride. Thereafter, the tour guide brought all to the Miniature Park, whereby we could see different miniature houses built by different villages.

Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Buddhist Temple is one of the biggest Buddhist temples in South East Asia and is a major attraction in Batam. We stop to visit the temple is located in the Batam Centre before lunch.

We had our 9 course lunch at the Fisherman Restaurant. The lunch was luscious. Before we proceeded to the Ferry terminal to take the ferry back, we went to Mega Mall at Batam Centre for a last minute shopping to spend all our Indonesian currency.

The resident had enjoyed the tour very much. The bonding and friendship built would definitely encourage them to come together for other activities moving forward.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!

It was a blessed evening with beautiful weather that was not too much of heat above us. Bukit Batok East’s Residents gathered together at the open space of Bukit Batok East Block 283 to celebrate the 44th Birthday of Singapore. More than 3000 Residents of Different Races, Language and Religious came together as ONE for the Observance Ceremony organised by Bukit Batok East Community Club.

The residents from Bukit Batok East Zone 3 were part of the celebration, since the open space of Bukit Batok East Block 283 was within the Zone 3 vicinity. For a moment, the open space has converted into a ‘Red Sea’. There were contingents formed by the Yusof Ishak Secondary School, PCF, CCC, CCMC, All Sub-Committees, Residents’ Committee and Neighbourhood Committee.

The atmosphere was extremely high when our Guest of Honour, Mdm Halimah Yacob - MP for Jurong GRC and Advisor to Jurong GRC/GRO, arrived. The residents sang the National Anthem proudly and resided the Pledge with pride in ONE voice. Thereafter, Mdm Halimah inspected the contingent formed by the Yusof Ishak Secondary School. After the inspection, all the contingent march / walk pass the Grandstand to given greet the MP.

Prior to National Day, Bukit Batok East CC together with all RC & NC has encouraged residents to recycle their water bottles. With these empty bottles collected, students from the Ngee Ann Polytechnic have constructed a scripture using 5010 of these recycled bottles.

The highlight of the evening program was the Variety Show that was host by the Singapore Famous Actress Liu Ling Ling (刘玲玲) and the Lucky Draw.

The residents had an unforgettable and wonderful evening that they had look forward for more.

Block Party cum Dengue Prevention Talk

Residents of Bukit Batok East Zone 3 came together on 25 Jul 2009 to get better understanding of Dengue Prevention. The event was organised byBukit Batok Zone 3 RC, supported by National Environment Agency.

The residents were treated with a short video presentation followed by some quiz on Dengue Prevention. Game store and banners were also set up to allow residents to get involved and clearly understand the ways to prevent dengue. The program ended with a buffet dinner and lucky draws. The resident has enjoyed themselves for a wonderful Saturday evening.
